For many years, I have been part of two communities. I have been part of English speaking and Korean speaking communities. Throughout my life in Brent School, I spent so much time helping my Korean friends in translating the contents of the class to the language of their comfort. In doing so, I have just realised that I have been translating English to Korean for several number of years.
I am very aware of the fact that the CAS activity entails much commitment to the activity. However, I thought this will be a great CAS opportunity, because this activity mainly aims to both Service and Creativity of the CAS project. This activity aims to train students from third world to become an ophthalmologist. In such process, my task is to translate the Korean instructor's lessons from Korea to English for the students, who are not proficient in understanding Korean. It will be my first time to try and to participate in a formal translating process, and to take a big role using my proficiency in both Korean and English.
This activity will not take very long. This volunteer activity will only take 4 hours on December 28, 2012. This will take from 9 am to 1 pm, and this activity will take place in Suwon World Cup Stadium's conference room. To get there, I will have to travel to Suwon from Geoje island, which is about 5 hours drive to the place. So I will be leaving to the volunteer location a day before the actual volunteer activity. From this activity is solely run and supervised by the AIESE Group of the Yonsei University.
From this activity, I will be able to learn more about the formally organised volunteer program, and I will also learn more about the formal translation, which is used in education.
