Initial Self-Review

Copy and paste this into your newly created CAS blog. Title the new page "Initial Self-review".

As part of your CAS requirement you will be asked to write an Initial Self-Review. The questions in this worksheet are designed to give you some “jumping off points” for this written reflection. To be most helpful your answers should focus on basic CAS areas for growth such as physical activity, artistic pursuits, social situations, personal growth, service work, as these will give a better idea on where to focus your future CAS activities.

1. What is your greatest accomplishment so far? How has this affected your life? What did you learn from it?

  • My greatest accomplishment is being a Treasurer of Student Council, and it affected me to become more responsible. This experience tought me that not everything can be done, as I expected something to be. Also, I learned that, there are many things that people would not be able to change, just because of your status.

2. What are you really good at?

  • I am not very sure.

3. Name one skill you have always wanted to develop in your life but that you haven’t yet.

  • I always wanted to develop, a "never-giving up" type of attitude.

4. Name one activity that you would like to try but that you haven’t yet. Why would you like to try this?

  • I would want to try playing Volleyball in a tournament. I always had a chance to try out in a volleyball team. However, I always did not get in the team, and never had chance to compete with other teams.

5. Name a person you admire right now. What qualities does this person have that you don’t?

  • I admire my sister right now. She has a extremely comforting personality, which keeps people around her.

6. What’s different about you now compared to what you were like when you were 10 years old?

  • When I was 10 years old, I did not understand anything about cultural differences. Also, I had been more hot-tempered that I had been involved with many quarells, often leading to worse scenarioes.

7. Describe the kind of person you think you will be post IB.

  • I think I would become more responsible and be able to take part in more activities.

ACTION:

1. List any clubs, organizations, sports, or other teams in which you are currently involved which involve ACTION: (varsity or club sports, dance, etc.)

  • National Honor Society
  • Varsity Soccer Team

2. How are you involved—as a participant, as an officer, do you have a leadership role? What gifts or talents do you contribute? Explain your answers for each organization or activity.

  • In nationa honor society, I am member, who just started my second year, therefore, I had been involved through being an ordinary member. I attributed my gifted ability of logically arguing, by presenting suggestions and concerns about the desitions made.
  • In varsity soccer team, I am and was a vice-captain of the team. I attributed my leadership ability, and communication skills to guide other members to be able to understand the tactics of our team. Also, I had to be a person in charge of communication between team members and the coaches, as we often face misunderstanding, due to differences of our cultural backgrounds.

3. How committed are you to the activity? Is it a substantial commitment? Does the organization, club, or team involve themselves in substantial, significant endeavors of which you are an active participant? Explain your answers for each organization or activity.

  • I am committed to this activity, as I commit my personal time to fulfill the duties I have in the organization. The activity do not need substantial commitment, but sometimes, I personally donate substantial goods to enhance the activity to flow better. For soccer team, I willingly donate drinks to enhance players to perform better, while in National Honor Society, I donate goods to the people in need.

4. What goals have you or will you set for yourself in terms of your performance and endeavors in each of these activities? Are these goals realistic and achievable? For each of the goals, what challenges do you think you might face? What new skills or new skill levels will you develop? Will these goals “stretch” you?

  • In these activities, I would like to earn trust from the members, by performing my best. This achievement can not be measurable, but I would still face many problems and challenges, in achieving the goal. I would mostly be able to choose the "right" decision, but this cannot always be true, as many decisions I make, do not make sense at all. Also, I will have to develop higher decision making skills, to be able to make people trust me as a leader or the trust-wordy member of the organization.

CREATIVITY:

1. Are you involved in any creative or artistic endeavors (orchestra, choir, GANZA, MUN, theater, etc.)? Do you use your creativity in helping to plan events/activities? Explain your answers for each organization or activity.

  • I am involved with being a ringer for Lessons and Carols. This activity, however, does not involve planning of the events. This activity only requires invovlement in activity.

2. How are you involved—as a participant or do you have a leadership role? What gifts or talents do you contribute? Explain your answers for each organization or activity.

  • As a member of the ringer group, I am a just an ordinary member, who contributes my musical and artistic ability to produce a long music, by cooperating with group of people.

3. How committed are you to the activity? Is it a substantial, significant commitment? Do you take an active role in participation? Explain your answers for each organization or activity.

  • It is more of a substantial commitment.

4. What goals have you or will you set for yourself in terms of your performances or creative endeavors in each of these activities? Are these goals realistic and achievable? For each of the goals, what challenges do you think you might face?

  • Through this activity, I have set a goal to perform perfectly on the day of our performance. This goal seems and is very realistic since our group do not have to practice a lot of musical pieces, while we have long time to practice the pieces.

What new skills or new skill levels will you develop? Will these goals “stretch” you?

1. List community/national/global issues that concern you the most.

  • I am concerned with cultural diversity the most. In our community, we are trying to accept different cultures fro many places. However, it is still very hard for many of us to adjust to the environment.

2. How have you currently involved yourself in these issues?

  • I try myself to become a communication route, between two or more cultures. I try my best to let them know that they are in a different environment.

3. What issues would you like to learn more about?

  • I would like to learn more about economic crisis and poverty that is occurring all over the world.

4. What skill(s) would you like to develop or learn in your service endeavor?

  • Through this learning, I would like to develop better communication skills and people skills,as I would be needing more of those throughout my life.

5. Do you want to work directly with people? If yes, would you prefer to work with children, adults, or the elderly?
